Fantastic Caverns 2.0

Our tour guide, Fred, made our tour extremely interesting. Not only is Fantastic Caverns a research center and conservation site, but they are a plethora of geologic wonderment. In the picture, you can see the stalagmite that is nearly as tall as Fred. A stalagmite grows by one cubic inch (the size of a small ice cube) every 100 years! So the Fred-sized stalagmite has been forming for over 7,ooo years.

On the right are two of the seven massive columns in the Hall of Giants. Geologists estimate these columns are approximately 2 million years old and are still actively growing in width.

Aidan's reaction to his first cave tour was really fun to watch.
"Fantastic Caverns was awesome. When I saw the really big cave wall and the rock that looked like a dinosaur head it was cool. The columns were the most awesome things I have ever seen."
